Variable Scaling

The Variable Scaling resource tool is used to perform automatic data scaling to convert numerical values into engineering units.

Often variables are acquired by the project from plant which correspond exactly to digitally converted raw values of analog quantities.

Such raw values are converted or 'scaled' into 'engineering units' that correspond to the analog quantity.  This conversion involves performing calculations to transform a minimum and a maxim of the digital value to a minimum and maximum of the scaled value in a linear regression.

Movicon allows these conversions to be performed directly through the "Variable Engineering Data Properties" so that the variable values are instantly scaled when arriving from the field.

In some situations, it may be necessary to scale between two variables, or to perform NON linear conversions that entail the use of the 'Variable Scaling' (Normalizers) resource through which the two variables can be specified, the one to be scaled and the scaled one, to obtain NON linear conversions.

This resource is available in the Movicon 'Project Explorer:

An unlimited number of Scaling objects can be added to the Variable Scaling (Normalizers) resource and each one will be scaled between two variables.

To add, copy or delete a Scaling object, please use the standard techniques described in the paragraph on "The Resources".

The general properties of Scaling objects can also be edited at Runtime by using the appropriate Basic Script functions.
